The Winkler County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to a airplane crash just west of the Wink airport.
Sheriff Mitchell and Deputy Nunez located the airplane on a lease road.
The pilot had left the site but reported that the airplane had ran out of gas and had to make an emergency landing on the lease road.
No injuries were reported.
Alliance Towing transported the airplane to the Winkler County Airport.
The FAA and NTSB were contacted and the incident is still under investigation.

Been there once for the cheap fuel. Another case of poor fuel management. I give it a 99% chance. If one is stupid enough to run out fuel not checking the level of their tanks, or forgets a tow bar attached to the front wheel, those should be license revocable offenses as it display such poor airmanship the person is no longer worthy to be called a PIC.
ReplyDeleteAircraft tested positive for drug paraphernalia and had sufficient fuel to make airport
ReplyDeleteOwner had pilots license revoked prior to the incident for narcotics smuggling
Owner/pilot also departed the area and refused to contact FAA/NTSB or local law enforcement, he abandoned the aircraft at the crash site where it was recovered by the sheriff’s office and transported to KINK
DeleteA year later a commercial aircraft transport service disassembled the aircraft and hauled it “to phoenix” AZ
