PEMBROKE PINES, Florida - A small plane's engine caught fire Friday morning at North Perry Airport.
There were two people on board the twin-engine Piper PA-34 at the time of the fire, Broward County Aviation Department spokesman Greg Meyer told Local 10 News.
It happened while the plane was taxiing on the runway before takeoff, Meyer said.
No injuries were reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

It’s a blessing that it happened on the ground. Their guardian angel was on point.
ReplyDeleteHad it happened just a little later......
ReplyDeletethats one of the original Seneca models...not the nicest handling airplane really, just a twin engine Cherokee 6
ReplyDeleteThis is why to a degree twins would also be safer... I would hate an engine fire ahead of the cabin in a single engine with few options but to plunge to try to extinguish it.
ReplyDeletehere the flames can be not as damaging, assuming no structural damage to the wing. At least the smoke and flames are sideways to the cockpit.
A fire while flying is my worst nightmare. Enough for me to consider a quick release door and a emergency parachute like the one I wear when I fly skydivers.
Once a fire starts at high altitude i.e cruise and the fire extinguisher is empty that would be the only option... abandon ship.
