A Reno Air Races pilot was forced to make an emergency landing on Pyramid Highway Wednesday night after his aircraft suffered an electrical failure, according to a statement. 

Andy Findlay, a gold winner of the sport class of the 2018 STIHL National Championship Air Races, was flying on a photo mission when the electrical failure happened. He rerouted to the Reno Stead Airport but the malfunction worsened, forcing him to make the landing on Pyramid Highway. 

Findlay was uninjured and no other persons, vehicles or property were harmed. His Lancair Legacy 2000 did not sustain any damage, according to the release. 

Findlay is in Reno participating in the annual Pylon Racing Seminar, or "rookie school," where new air races pilots are trained in the art of head-to-head pylon racing before they are allowed to participate in the races. 

He was flying outside of the event hours when the incident happened.

SPARKS, Nevada (KOLO)-- A Reno Air Race pilot made an emergency landing on the Pyramid Highway Wednesday night, an Air Race spokeswoman says.

Andy Findlay is in Reno for the annual pylon racing seminar at the Reno-Stead Airport. Findlay won the gold in the sport class of the 2018 STIHL National Championship Air Races.

Findlay was on a photo mission when his Lancair Legacy Aircraft had electrical failure, according to a race statement. He rerouted to the airport in Stead when the malfunction got worse, so he landed safely on the Pyramid Highway. He was not hurt and there was no damage to the plane, which has been moved.

An Air Race spokeswoman says the pilot landed on the highway about ten miles from Pyramid Lake.

The 2019 event is set for September 11-15.

According to STIHL National Air Races at around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday a Lancair Legacy 2000 had to do an emergency landing on Pyramid Highway after the plane experienced an electrical failure.

The pilot was a gold medal winner of the 2018 STIHL National Championship Air Races and was flying on a photo mission.

No people, property, or vehicles were damaged in the landing.
