JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) - It’s not uncommon to see planes fly over during a day at the beach.
But a plane on the beach? That’s another story.
Officials say a pilot ran out of gas on his way to St. Simons Friday and made an emergency landing on Jekyll Island’s Glory Beach. That’s near the south end of the island.
Marcy Crosby, of Statesboro, said she brought her mom and out-of-town friends to visit the island for a beach day.
When they arrived at lunchtime, they were welcomed by the bright red-orange plane — a great photo op.
After getting some photos taken (and some fuel) the pilot was on his way.

GLYNN COUNTY, Georgia (WTOC) - A pilot headed to Saint Simons Island had to make an emergency landing before reaching his destination, Friday afternoon.
Jekyll Island Authority says the private owner was running low on fuel while making his way to the airport, so he had to land on Jekyll Island’s beach.
Officials say a person from the airport in Saint Simons actually came to the rescue to refuel the plane, and the pilot continued onto his destination.
