On May 19, 2019, about 1500 mountain daylight time, a Beech C35, N1888D, was substantially damaged following a loss of control and impact with terrain about 1,150 ft west of the departure end of runway 30, Sunrise Skypark Airport (ID40), Melba, Idaho. The airline transport pilot, the sole occupant, was fatally injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the proposed local flight, which was being operated in accordance with Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91, and no flight plan was filed. The flight was originating at the time of the accident.
According to residents of the Sunrise Skypark Airport, during the initial climb to the west at an altitude of about 200 to 300 ft above ground level, a loud noise was heard. This was followed by the airplane's descent and impact with terrain. A postcrash fire ensued, which consumed the cabin and cockpit area of the airplane.
An examination of the airplane and accident site by representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration revealed that the airplane initially impacted terrain in a right-wing-low attitude. It subsequently rotated in a clockwise direction about 180 degrees, after which it came to rest upright about 95 ft west of the first point of impact, and oriented on a magnetic heading of about 130 degrees, almost directly in line with the departure runway. All major components necessary for flight, except for one propeller blade, were accounted for at the accident site. An extensive search of the local area for the missing propeller blade was not successful.
The airplane was recovered to secured location for further examination.

The Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office says the pilot killed in a single-engine plane crash Sunday is believed to be 71-year-old Craig Wolter, according to a news release.
The Beechcraft C35 Bonanza crashed shortly after takeoff from the Skypark runway near Givens Hot Springs around 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by both the NTSB and the FAA.

Officials with Owyhee County confirm a small plane crashed near Melba around 3:00 p.m. Sunday, killing one man.
The crash site was less than a mile from Sunrise Skypark Airport in Melba, but officials have not confirmed where the airplane was traveling to or from.
Reports indicate the plane had a single occupant inside at the time of the crash.

Federal aviation investigators are trying to determine what led to Sunday's deadly plane crash near a Melba airstrip.
Identification of the pilot was being conducted Monday at the Canyon County Sheriff's Office.
A press release from the Owyhee County Sheriff's Office said the victim is believed to be Craig Wolter, 71, who resides at Sunrise Skypark Airport, near where the crashed occurred.
The Beechcraft C35 Bonanza is registered in Wolter's name.
The crash happened around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, less than a mile from the Sunrise Skypark Airport near Givens Hot Springs and just off Highway 78, shortly after takeoff, according to the press release.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

An Idaho pilot was killed in a plane crash Sunday afternoon, shortly after takeoff at the Sunrise Skypark runway near Melba.
The Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Monday that the pilot is believed to be 71-year-old Craig Wolter. The Canyon County Coroner’s Office will provide official identification later Monday, the sheriff said.
The crash occurred at 3 p.m. Sunday. The plane was a Beechcraft C35 Bonanza.
Wolter lived at the Sunrise Skypark, which is a residential aviation community, according to the community’s website.
