Santa Fly-In December 10th at Orangeburg Municipal Airport (KOGB)

The “jolly old elf” himself will once again fly into Orangeburg in an airplane to bring Christmas gifts to good girls and boys.

Sponsored by the local Experimental Aircraft Association chapter, the 10th annual Santa Fly-In will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Orangeburg Municipal Airport.

The only cost is the gift that a parent or guardian purchases, wraps and tags with their child’s name on it. The gifts must be delivered to the airport starting Monday, Nov. 27 and no later than 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9.

Airport hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Local pilots will load the gifts into an airplane on Sunday and depart for a short flight away, returning with Santa Claus around 2 p.m. When he arrives, Santa will call each child’s name and present them with their provided gift.

The ramp and hangar will open at 1 p.m. Live communication will be set up so parents and children can hear the radio communication between Santa’s plane and Santa’s scout aircraft, “Rudolf,” who checks to be sure the area is clear and it's safe to land.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. In the interest of safety, no planes will land as long as there are unattended children.

At the airport, there also will be a donation box where attendees can provide a new, unwrapped toy to help another child who is less fortunate have something special on Christmas morning.

The toys will be donated to local charities to be distributed. Donations are not required for participation in the Santa Fly-In but will be appreciated.
