NTSB investigators used data provided by various entities, including, but not limited to, the Federal Aviation Administration and/or the operator and did not travel in support of this investigation to prepare this aircraft accident report.

The private pilot reported that during a local flight in the aerobatic biplane, he performed an aerobatic flight maneuver about 2,000 feet above ground level. He reported that he performed a left wing over, the airplane entered an unintentional spin and he recovered from the spin too low to the ground. The airplane impacted trees and came to rest upright, but sustained substantial damage to both wings, fuselage and empennage.

The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies with the airplane during the flight that would have prevented normal flight operations.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot's loss of control while performing an aerobatic maneuver resulting in an inadvertent spin and collision with trees and terrain.



Incident report:   This evening St. James Ambulance District and St. James Fire Department were dispatched to a plane crash in the area of the St. James Golf Course. The single-engine aircraft was eventually located in a field off country road 3450 and we are glad to report that both occupants walked away from the crash with minor injuries.   This incident is currently being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.  -SJAD

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirms there was a plane crash in Phelps County around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Sergeant Cody Fulkerson of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened near the St. James Golf Course and County Road 3450 in Phelps County.

The aircraft was a privately owned aircraft occupied by the pilot and one passenger, according to Fulkerson.

Both people have received injuries, but the extent of those are unknown.

They are being treated at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla.

Fulkerson said the Federal Aviation Administration is conducting the investigation of the crash.
