TRYON, N.C. (WNCN) – A small plane landed on a North Carolina highway after an emergency on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened on US Highway 74 near mile marker 172 in Tryon at 2:34 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Polk County Dispatch Supervisor.

Officials said that the plane was having engine problems.

Fox Carolina reported that the pilot accidentally hit the wrong switch, cutting fuel to the engine.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol told WHNS-TV that after landing, the pilot figured out the problem and the switch was turned back on for fuel.

The plane then took off from the scene at about 3:30 p.m.

The highway was shut down for a short period of time but was later reopened.
