FRANKLIN, PENNSYLVANIA — Back in the days of the wild West, cattle rustlers would make a few extra bucks or pesos by stealing steers that they knew had an easy brand that they could alter to match their devious employer’s herd when they went to market.
Today, that practice is relegated to old black-and-white movies.
However, a new version of legal rebranding will be ceremoniously held at the Venango Regional Airport, in Franklin on Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The rebranding will be much larger and weigh 50 times as much as the four-legged ones from the Plains on the prairie — but, it is a plane.
Excuse the multiple puns and play on words. Southern Airways Express, the new carrier service that will transport passengers to and from the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport in conjunction with the Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry, and Tourism (ORA) have organized a takeoff party and ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the occasion.
The evening outing will include hors d’ oeuvres, wine, beer, and soft drinks.
Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the new Southern Airways aircraft and meet the pilots who will fly them to their destinations.
Executives and owners of Southern Airways will be available to answer questions.
The festivities will also include live musical entertainment and door prizes donated from merchants in the Oil Region.
A grand prize of two hotel nights and two round-trip tickets from Franklin to Myrtle Beach, S.C., via the Pitt connector, will be drawn.
The welcoming and rebranding evening is open to the public at no cost.
