Cessna 210M Centurion, N761EP: Accident occurred January 18, 2016 at Venice Municipal Airport (KVNC), Sarasota County, Florida

NTSB investigators used data provided by various entities, including, but not limited to, the Federal Aviation Administration and/or the operator and did not travel in support of this investigation to prepare this aircraft accident report.

The pilot reported that while entering the airport traffic pattern for landing, he was distracted by approximately eight other airplanes already in the traffic pattern. He subsequently forgot to extend the landing gear and landed with the gear retracted. The airplane came to rest upright on the runway. Examination of the airplane by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector revealed damage to the lower fuselage, which included the keel and bulkhead. The inspector added that when the landing gear selector handle was moved to the extend position, the landing gear extended normally. Examination of the airplane did not reveal any preimpact mechanical malfunctions, nor did the pilot report any.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot's failure to properly configure the landing gear, which resulted in a landing with the landing gear in the retracted position.

VENICE – Emergency personnel were dispatched to Venice Regional Airport.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office received a call to assist at the Venice Regional Airport at 5 P.M. Monday, January 17th. 

An aircraft’s landing gear reportedly got stuck in the mud.

Fire crews were also on the scene.

A flashing “X” was on display signifying that the runway was closed following the incident.
