Transportation Security Administration PreCheck comes to Plattsburgh International Airport (KPBG)

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. —The Transportation Security Administration said Wednesday it expanded its expedited security program to the Plattsburgh International Airport.

The program allows passengers to bypass several security measures including removing shoes, liquids, laptops and belts.

Plattsburgh International Airport Manager Christopher Kreig said the TSA operates its systems separately from the airport, but that he welcomed improvements that enhance the passenger experience. Kreig said he was glad to hear Allegiant would be joining other airlines in the screening program.

Thirteen carriers use the TSA PreCheck program already, including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, OneJet, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin America and WestJet.

Allegiant customer Bill Kinsley said he flew into Plattsburgh from Sanford, Florida, Wednesday.

"We winter in Florida and summer in Malone, " he said.

Kinsley said he's in town to visit family for the holidays.

"Very smooth, not a problem at all," he said of the security measures at the airports.

Kinsley said if he flew more often, he might consider going through the pre-screening process.

"I don't fly into too many large airports where it would be a bigger issue. What I like about Plattsburgh and Sanford is it's a nonstop flight on Allegiant, and they're both relatively small airports, so it's easy to get in and out of," Kinsley said.

While he's personally not going to apply, Kinsley said he has no issues with the program's goals.

Passengers who are approved will will have special indicator on their boarding passes. Travlers who are elgible include passengers who apply through the TSA application program, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Trust Travaler program and Global Entry and Canadaian citizens who are members of the CPB NEXUS program.
