 OXFORD, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- Two people were injured when a small, single engine plane left the runway and overturned Saturday evening at an airport near Oxford.

It happened just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening at the Greencastle Airport, 2154 250th Street NW. 

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says two occupants were able to exit the aircraft and were taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for non-life threatening injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was notified of the crash and is now handling further investigation. In an email to CBS 2 News, an FAA spokesperson, based in Oklahoma City, said the aircraft was a Luscombe 8A. 

 The FAA would not release the names or status of the two people involved.

JOHNSON COUNTY - Two people went to the hospital after a small plane crashed in Johnson County. 

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Green Castle Airport, located at 2154 250th St. NW, around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said a small, single engine plane left the runway and overturned.

The two people inside the plane were able to exit the airplane after the crash.

Both victims were taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment.

 The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said the victims suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration is handling the investigation.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oxford Fire Department and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
