Ultralight aircraft crashes near Ponoka airport - Edmonton, Canada

 
An ultralight aircraft crashed into a farmer's field shortly after taking off from the Ponoka Airport on July 31, 2012. 


EDMONTON - The pilot of an ultralight aircraft survived a crash Tuesday morning near Ponoka. 

 The plane went down shortly after taking off from the Ponoka Airport around 11:30 a.m.

The pilot, a 57-year-old man from Red Deer, walked away from the crash but was later taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the crash was caused by mechanical failure. The exact cause will be determined by Transport Canada, which is now investigating.

Ponoka is about 100 kilometres south of Edmonton.
