LAKE TRAVIS, Texas — A man is dead after an aircraft he was flying crashed on Lake Travis Wednesday night. The Texas Department of Public Safety on Thursday identified the man as Don Sumner, 58.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday the crash happened south of Point Venture just after 7 p.m. DPS said troopers responded as well.

It was determined the aircraft lost power and crashed into the water. DPS said Sumner, who is from Lakeway, was rescued by boaters and brought on shore.

He was flown to a local hospital by STAR Flight and later pronounced dead.

The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted, according to DPS, which said the aircraft was a weight-shift control Sea and Sky Cygnet.
