A fuel tank off a Robinson R22 helicopter has been handed in to Gore police after being found on the side of a Southland road.
The tank, which is black with R22 Beta II on the side in yellow writing, was found on the side of State Highway 1 between Waipahi and Clinton in Southland on Wednesday night.
Police are looking to locate the owner.
There have been no reports of helicopter crashes in the area.
The Civil Aviation Authority have been contacted for comment.
The owner of the tank can contact the Gore police station on (03) 2039300.
