NTSB investigators used data provided by various entities, including, but not limited to, the Federal Aviation Administration and/or the operator and did not travel in support of this investigation to prepare this aircraft accident report.
The pilot reported that the approach and touchdown were "acceptable," but during the landing roll the airplane pulled to the right and departed the runway. During the runway excursion, the left main landing gear collapsed and the airplane skidded to a stop in terrain. The right wing and fuselage sustained substantial damage.
According to a Federal Aviation Administration Aviation Safety Inspector who performed a postaccident inspection, no anomalies were found with the flight controls and all tires were in good condition.
The pilot reported there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot's loss of directional control during the landing roll, which resulted in a runway excursion and a left main landing gear collapse.
Rimrock -A small plane made a hard landing here on Dec. 13, causing serious damage to the aircraft but no injuries to the pilot.
The 62-year-old pilot was landing his Lancair 360 at Rimrock Airport about 11:45 a.m., sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said, when he touched down "with enough force to cause the landing gear to fail, resulting in the plane sliding approximately 150 yards before coming to rest."
The pilot was unhurt.
The airplane sustained damage to the wings, underbelly, propeller, and the landing gear, which completely collapsed, D'Evelyn said.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.

RIMROCK, Ariz. (AP) — A pilot escaped injury after his small plane had a hard landing at the Rimrock Airport.
Yavapai County Sheriff's officials say 62-year-old Charlie Hoye was trying to land his Lancair 360 aircraft just before noon Sunday.
The plane struck asphalt with enough force to cause the landing gear to fail, causing the aircraft to slide about 150 yards before coming to a stop.
Authorities say Hoye, of Rimrock, didn't need medical attention.
But the plane sustained heavy damage to the wings, underbelly and propeller.
Sheriff's officials say the National Transportation Safety Board was notified and will conduct a follow-up review of the incident.
