HONOLULU, Haw. (KHON) – Two United Airlines passengers are suing the air carrier for a less-than-friendly experience in the skies.
In a federal lawsuit filed last Friday by Hawaii residents Peter and Misty Tampon, Peter Tampon was flying from Honolulu to Narita, Japan seated in the aisle seat of an exit row in August 2013.
During dinner service, the lawsuit alleges that a flight attendant rolled a heavy serving cart next to Peter Tampon’s seat, then walked away, leaving the cart unattended in the aisle. The cart allegedly fell on him, injuring his left knee and leg, and prompted him to undergo three surgeries.
As a result, the lawsuit claims, “Mr. Tampon has suffered and continues to suffer serious physical and psychological injuries, including but not limited to extreme pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional and mental distress relating to his injuries, loss of enjoyment of life, and special damages, including but not limited to medical care expenses, travel expenses, substitute services, all in amounts to be determined and proven at the time of trial.”
The couple is asking for $75,000.
We reached out to United Airlines for a statement and spokeswoman Mary Ryan said, “The safety of our customers is paramount to our business, however, we cannot comment on pending litigation.”
