Premier confirms JetBlue service to Grand Cayman

Premier McKeeva Bush, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance has officially announced that JetBlue Airlines will soon begin service to the Cayman Islands.

JetBlue is expected serve Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport with three -times weekly service on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) beginning 15, November 2012.

The airline will also include a Saturday-only service to the Cayman Islands from Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS), which it plans to begin on 17 November

Confirming this, Mr Bush noted that this development has been part of his government’s undertaking to expand the catchment area of the tourist market.

“Our policy and plan is to grow tourism and to do so through opening as many gateways as possible, by getting as many airlines to choose to come (to Cayman). We are prepared to work with the air carriers through the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA),” he told Cayman Net News.

Mr Bush noted that the Department of Tourism had carried out his government’s policy, and he gave credit to them.

“We are very glad that JetBlue has also chosen the Cayman Islands.

We know that, along with expanding and growing new markets, supporting and improving our core markets like New York and Boston is essential and this allows us to do that. This is another example of our determination, in spite of the challenging world economy, to keep growing our tourism industry,” Mr Bush stated.

Recently, Director of Tourism Shomari Scott noted that t government is pursuing different markets for visitors to Cayman, based on their unique attributes.

While speaking to a local radio station, he gave the example of Chicago, Illinois, which tourists leave during winter and contrasted it to Houston, Texas, where residents leave the city and its environs during the extreme heat of summer.

JetBlue’s flights to Grand Cayman from Boston and New York will be operated with its Airbus A320 fleet. The airline will have a convenient, assigned seating; a first-checked bag free and complimentary and unlimited snacks and drinks.

Grand Cayman will be JetBlue’s 74th destination. JetBlue is New York’s Hometown Airline(TM) with other focus cities in Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Orlando and San Juan.
