Laser pen youths’ action ‘reckless’

Shining a laser pen at an aircraft on its way into land was reckless and dangerous behaviour, airport director Colin Le Ray has said.

The airport received a complaint about the incident on Thursday evening which involved Flybe flight BE637 from Southampton, which landed in Guernsey at approximately 8.25pm.

‘We had a call from a member of the public saying they had seen a couple of youths shining a laser pen at an incoming aircraft,’ Mr Le Ray confirmed. ‘The pilot later confirmed he had seen laser lights directed at him.’

The police took action to try to identify the people who did it, but they were not traced.
