Lake Cumberland Regional Airport (KSME) Somerset, Kentucky: Police Searching For Prisoner.

Somerset Police have charged two men in connection with yesterday's escape of a work release inmate.

According to police, the two inmates on work release lied to police in order to help another missing work release inmate.

According to Somerset Police: Clyde Derrell Collett, age 39, of Hope Way in Somerset is employed with the Lake Cumberland Regional Airport on a federal work force initiative and claimed to have vehicle trouble yesterday when returning Jason Cannon, age 31, and Cortney Slusher, age 33, to the Pulaski County Detention Center. Cannon and Slusher were assigned to the airport as part of the jail's work release program.

The investigation took a turn today when Det. Larry Patterson discovered Collett actually drove Cannon to Danville yesterday to see his girlfriend when Cannon fled. Collett and Slusher came up with the story of breaking down at Walmart to throw off law enforcement and help Cannon remain free.

Det. Patterson charged Collett and Slusher with Complicity to Escape 2nd Degree. Collett was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center. Slusher remains there on a probation violation for previous drug charges.

Cannon remains at large. He is 6' 2" tall and weighs 180 pounds. He was last seen in the Danville, Kentucky area.

Anyone with information on Cannon's whereabouts is asked to call your local 911 Center, or the Somerset Police Crime Tip Line at (606) 676-TIPS.

The Somerset Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a prisoner who walked away from work release last night.

Jason Myers Cannon, age 31, of Lancaster, was in the Pulaski County Detention Center after being convicted of criminal possession of a forged instrument in Garrard County and probation violation.

Cannon was assigned to work release at the Lake Cumberland Regional Airport and was being taken back to the detention center by an airport employee. According to the employee, the vehicle they were in began having mechanical problems and he pulled into the Walmart parking lot. When the employee and another inmate started working on the truck, Cannon slipped away.

Cannon has relatives throughout central Kentucky. The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Somerset Police Department and the Pulaski County Detention Center.

If anyone has information on Cannon's whereabouts, please call 911 or the Somerset Police 24-Hour Crime Tip Line at (606) 676-TIPS. All callers may remain anonymous.
