Jamaica: Fair Trading Commission monitoring regional airfares

The Fair Trading Commission (FTC) says it is now monitoring airfares to ascertain the benefits of flying in the region.

The competition watchdog says that since the entry of Barbados-based low cost carrier REDjet in the Jamaican market, it has started to monitor airfares on the routes on which the airline flies in competition with Caribbean Airlines Limited.

The FTC said the move is to monitor the market with a view to quantify the benefits to consumers arising from REDjet's recent entry into the market.
