QUEENS (PIX11) —
Passengers were evacuated from a plane that landed at JFK Sunday as
emergency crews swept the aircraft, which was involved in a threat,
authorities said.
A spokesperson for the
Fire Department of New York said the threat involved an American
Airlines flight that landed at the airport.
Passengers identified the flight as American Airlines 67 originating in Barcelona.
Teresa Dietrich, who was
on board as the situation unfolded, said she and her fellow passengers
were led off the plane and onto buses that carried them from the tarmac
to the terminal. It does not appear that anyone has been hurt.
The threat may have come in the form of a phone call, according to a PIX11 News police source.
Members of the NYPD bomb squad and FDNY were on the scene, and the FBI has been notified, authorities said.
Sunday is one of the
busiest travel days of the year on the road and at the nation’s
airports, as millions of Americans who traveled for Thanksgiving are
heading home after the holiday weekend.
It was not known if or
how the emergency response would affect other operations at the airport.
No further information was immediately available.
