Injuries: 1 Uninjured.
NTSB investigators used data provided by various entities, including, but not limited to, the Federal Aviation Administration and/or the operator and did not travel in support of this investigation to prepare this aircraft accident report.
The pilot reported that after four stop and go landings under night visual meteorological conditions, he planned to terminate the flight with a soft field landing. He further reported that as the airplane touched down, he heard scraping and the airplane subsequently slid to a stop on the runway. The pilot reported that he forgot to extend the landing gear for landing and did not hear the landing gear warning horn through his conventional (non-noise canceling) headset.
The fuselage sustained substantial damage.
The pilot reported no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
During a postaccident interview with the chief flight instructor of the operator, he reported that the gear warning horn in the accident airplane was normally audible in the cockpit, but does not sound directly through the headset. He further reported that they are in the process of installing a "supplemental voice" gear warning horn that will sound through the airplane's audio panel.
The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot's failure to extend the landing gear, which resulted in a gear-up landing.
An emergency landing at St. Louis Downtown Airport prompted several area fire departments to the scene of a runway Wednesday evening.
Per the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency, a Piper PA34 landed on its belly on runway around 8:30 p.m.
The pilot tells officials they were unable to retract the landing gear in time.
The pilot was not hurt, but the plane received significant damage.
The FAA will be investigating the incident.

CAHOKIA, IL (KTVI) – Officials at St. Louis Downtown Airport have requested the NTSB to investigate an incident at the airport.
Around 8:30 pm emergency crews were summoned to the airport for plane that landed on the runway with no landing gear.
The plane was carrying only the pilot, who was uninjured in the accident.

CAHOKIA -- Emergency crews were called to St. Louis Downtown Airport late Wednesday, according to the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency.
The agency posted on its Facebook page around 9 p.m. that there was “an aircraft incident” on the runway.
MedStar Ambulance was on the scene evaluating the pilot, officials said.
The National Transportation Safety Board was called to the scene. The St. Louis Downtown Airport Fire Department, Sauget Fire Department and Cahokia Fire Department assisted at the scene.
