Jefferson County to begin reviewing candidates for airport manager: Watertown International (KART), Dexter, New York

An ad-hoc committee of Jefferson County legislators soon will begin reviewing approximately a dozen candidates for manager of Watertown International Airport, near Dexter, said Barry M. Ormsby, R-Belleville, chairman of the committee.

The county began advertising for the position in June after legislators voted to create a separate airport department.

Since the county took over operations of the airport from the city of Watertown in 2006, the airport has fallen under the auspices of the Highway Department and has been managed by County Highway Superintendent James L. Lawrence Jr.

However, legislators say the job has grown too big and merits its own department.

The position requires either a bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience or an associate degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience.

The position would pay $60,474 to $67,534 and includes enrollment in the state’s pension program and health and dental insurance.
