The Fort Dodge Regional Airport Commission is moving ahead with its plans to reconstruct the general aviation apron.
At a special meeting Thursday, the commission approved a contract with McClure Engineering to provide onsite representation throughout the construction process. The cost of that contract is $58,970.
The Federal Aviation Administration made minor changes to that agreement.
Rhonda Chambers, director of aviation, said the changes do not affect the design or amount of the contract or project.
The apron is to be reconstructed and extended by 8 feet on the south side of the ramp.
The existing pavement will be torn out in phases and replaced with concrete.
Chambers said the project will not impact the next Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight.
The commission also approved the FAA grant application for the reconstruction of the GA apron.
The full cost of the project is $909,314.16.
Ninety percent will come from the FAA at $818,332.
The local match is $90,932.16.
"The sooner we can get this application to them, the sooner we can get a grant back," Chambers said.
Andy Maysent, of McClure Engineering Co., is managing the project.
A contract for the reconstruction of the GA apron was awarded at a meeting earlier this month.
The contract was awarded to Concrete Foundations Inc. of New Hampton.
That company submitted the lowest bid for the project at $793,157.
Maysent said Concrete Foundations is hoping to complete the project in this construction season.
"That's why it's so critical to get this grant application submitted, so we can get this moving along," he said.
In other business, the commission approved a hangar lease for Jeff Vosberg.
Vosberg will be renting hangar E-3 at a monthly cost of $154 beginning June 1.
