SOUTH HAVEN, MI-- As severe thunderstorms rolled in across the lake, South Haven Emergency Services responded to two weather-related emergencies on Monday night, April 25 according to a news release from the service.
At 9:38 p.m., during the height of the storm, a single-engine airplane was blown off the runway while attempting to land at the South Haven Area Airport on County Road 380. No one was injured in the incident.
Just four minutes later, at 9:42 p.m.,, lightning struck a South Haven Township business, Lakeshore Appliances, County Road 380 and Blue Star Highway.
Flames were showing when South Haven firefighters arrived on scene.
Assisting were firefighters from Bangor and Covert. There were no injuries.

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — The storm system that impacted parts of West Michigan on Monday night led to at least two different emergency responses in the South Haven area.
According to South Haven Area Emergency Services, a single-engine airplane was blown off a runway while attempting to land at South Haven Area Regional Airport at around 9:38 p.m. It is not clear how much damage was done to the aircraft, but fortunately, there were no injuries.
At 9:42 p.m., lightning struck Lakeshore Appliances, a business located at County Road 380 and Blue Star Highway in South Haven Township. When crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke and flames were showing.
While the business suffered extensive damage, there were no injuries.

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say a small plane went off a runway in southwestern Michigan after the pilot made an emergency landing due to thunderstorms.
No one was injured in Monday's landing at South Haven Area Regional Airport.
Police say the plane was heading from Kansas to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, when the pilot reported encountering strong storms with high winds. The plane was found off the end of the runway and had damage to its front end from the landing.
Police didn't say where in Kansas the flight originated. South Haven police say the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
