NTSB investigators used data provided by various entities, including, but not limited to, the Federal Aviation Administration and/or the operator and did not travel in support of this investigation to prepare this aircraft accident report.
The pilot reported that during takeoff the wind shifted from a crosswind to a quartering tailwind. He further reported that immediately after rotation at 45 knots, the airplane began to drift to the left and would not climb. Subsequently, the pilot aborted the takeoff and touched down to the left of the runway about 20 feet before a wire fence. The nose wheel caught on the wire fence and the airplane nosed over.
The vertical stabilizer and fuselage sustained substantial damage.
The pilot did not report any mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot's failure to establish a climb and maintain directional control during takeoff in quartering tailwind conditions, which resulted in a loss of directional control, aborted takeoff, collision with a wire fence, and nose over.
A 1965 Cessna 150F, fixed wing-single engine, carrying two people crashed after attempting to take off in Sterling County Sunday afternoon. According to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the plane was piloted by 50-year old John Gregory Millen of Leander.
The crash happened on the Cole Ranch, south of Sterling City. Millen had landed the plane in the field off an old runway strip. He and his passenger, 53-year old Kendall Lee Collier, were looking for a hunting lease, traveling from Georgetown.
As the plane went down the runway to lift off, it lifted off the ground and then started to move left off its directed path. The plane started coming back down, striking a pipe fence, causing the plane to flip onto its top.
No injuries were received in the crash.
The scene has been released to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for investigation.

Officials say the plane went down its runway to lift off, when it went off of its directed path upon lift off. The plane then came back down, striking a fence, causing the plane to flip.
The two occupants were not injured and the scene is under Federal Aviation Administration investigation.
