Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (KPHF) evicting PeoplExpress

Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport spokeswoman Jessica Wharton says the carrier is being evicted for failure to pay about $18,000 in utility bills.

This is the airport’s second eviction action against the airline, which suspended its flights in late September amid equipment and personnel problems.

The carrier was told to vacate ticket counter space in November because it had not paid about $100,000 in facility fees that it had collected from ticket-buyers.

PeoplExpress founder Michael Morisi said Thursday that the airline is working to resume service, and an expected insurance settlement stemming from damage to one of its planes will provide money to pay the debts.
