Man injured in gyrocopter crash

The pilot of a small helicopter was injured when the aircraft crashed Saturday afternoon in Mt. Orab.

Emergency officials said the crash happened about 3:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Oakland Road.

The pilot of the gyrocopter, John C. Holbrook Jr., was flown by Air Care to University Hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries.

No one on the ground was hurt, authorities said.

Witnesses told investigators the aircraft had been taxiing down the runway and lost control on take-off. Holbrook was wearing a helmet and a seat belt at the time of the crash, officers said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
