Panavia Tornado GR4, Royal Air Force, Moray Firth, Scotland

The wreckage from the Tornado crash which claimed the lives of three airmen from RAF Lossiemouth was brought ashore yesterday.

The mangled wings of one of the downed jets, an aircraft wheel and fragmented shards of metal were lifted from a salvage vessel which docked at Invergordon on the Moray Firth.

The remains of the two planes were transferred from the boat, the Far Sapphire, into steel containers, which were then loaded on to HGV lorries at the harbour’s Admiralty Pier.
