Estonian Air to Open Tallinn-Jyväskylä Route

National carrier Estonian Air announced today that it will start operating direct flights between Tallinn and the Finnish city of Jyvaskylä on March 25, 2012.

The schedule lists seven weekly departures from both cities, according to the airline. According to Tero Taskila, CEO of Estonian Air, opening of this route will be the company's "first step" in expanding its share on the Finnish market.

Attempting to gain foothold on the Finnish air travel market is a tactical step by Estonian Air, as on August 24, the UK-based low-cost air carrier Flybe announced that it will open five routes between Estonia and Finland.

Flybe, which is currently Europe's largest regional carrier, operating over 180 routes to 65 airports, is aiming to become the leading regional airline for both the Nordic and Baltic regions, Mike Rutter, managing director of Flybe Europe has said.
