On June 22, 2019, about 1030 eastern daylight time, a Waco YMF airplane, N63WC, experienced a total loss of engine power while conducting a scenic flight of Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine. The airplane was owned by Biplane Rides Over Atlanta, Inc and operated by Acadia Air Tours. The pilot and two passengers were not injured, and the airplane received substantial damage to both wing spar structures and the rudder. The airplane was operated under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as an air tour flight. Day visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed for the local flight that originated at Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport, bar Harbor, Maine.
The pilot reported they had departed for a 25-minute sightseeing tour of Acadia National Park. He stated "all engine controls and the airplane were normal" as they flew around Bar Harbor, past Northeast Harbor and up Somes Sound. About 15 minutes into the flight, the pilot stated there was a loud "crack/bang" from the front of the airplane. The crack/bang was followed by a steady noise for about 10 seconds that sounded "similar to a helicopter" and then the propeller stopped. The pilot said he pitched down to maintain the airplane's airspeed, made a radio call notifying traffic of his emergency, and selected a suitable landing area in the marshland. During landing the airplane impacted a tree with the left wing and as they touched down the airplane flipped over.

Officials have not given a reason for the crash, but people in the area reported hearing the plane’s engine cut out as it flew over Somes Sound late morning, and seeing the plane go down into the trees.
The incident will be reviewed by the National Transportation Safety Board, Bar Harbor Fire Chief Matt Bartlett said in a statement.
The yellow, open cockpit biplane is believed to be owned by the Trenton-based Acadia Air Tours company.
The Bar Harbor police and fire departments received word of the crash at 10:47 a.m., Bartlett said, and the agencies began a search for the three people.
“The search team located the downed plane and occupants quickly with assistance from a Maine Forest Service helicopter” crew, Bartlett said. “The three occupants of the plane were walked out to waiting ambulances” from the Bar Harbor Fire Department and Northeast Harbor Ambulance Service.
The Maine Warden Service, Maine State Police, Hancock County Emergency Management Agency and Acadia National Park also assisted at the scene, Bartlett said.

BAR HARBOR (WGME) -- A plane crash near Mount Desert Island High School injured one person Saturday.
According into pictures from the Maine Forest Rangers, the plane landed upside near the Bar Harbor school.
Bar Harbor Fire Chief Matt Bartlett said there were no fatalities in the crash but one person was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Three people were said to be on board the plane.
Forest rangers responded along with firefighters and police.
