Man drives drunk onto Republic Airport (KFRG) runway, cops say

Kroy Moore, 34, of Wyandanch, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, among other charges, after he drove his car through a fence and onto a runway at Republic Airport in East Farmingdale on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, Suffolk County police said.

A drunken driver who was being pursued by police crashed through a fence and drove a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta on a runway at Republic Airport in East Farmingdale early Saturday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said First Precinct officers initially saw Kroy Moore run a red light on Mount Avenue in Wyandanch at about 1:35 a.m. and tried to pull him over, but stopped the pursuit shortly thereafter.

About a minute later, the same Jetta was seen driving on New Highway near Republic Airport by First Precinct officers, police said. Moore, 34, plowed through a fence at the airport and drove on a runway until his damaged vehicle became immobilized.

Once his car stopped, Moore ran away on foot with officers in pursuit and was apprehended, police said.

Moore, of Spring Street in Wyandanch, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, criminal trespass, false personation, criminal mischief and unlawful fleeing of a police officer. He will be held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
