Jet Airways adds flights on AirAsia routes - Will also fly a bigger Boeing 737 aircraft instead of 62-68 seater turboprop ATR plane on Bangalore-Goa route

Jet Airways will add two flights each between Bangalore-Kochi and Bangalore-Chennai and fly a bigger Boeing 737 aircraft instead of 62-68 seater turboprop ATR plane on Bangalore-Goa route from August 11. All these routes are being served by AirAsia and the addition of capacity will enable the airline to compete in the market. The airline announced additional flights in a notification to travel agents on Monday.

"The new flights to Kochi and Chennai will be operated with ATR planes. Filling up 68 seats will not be a problem as we also offer competitive prices. All other airlines are flying 180-seater Airbus A320s,'' a Jet Airways source said.

AirAsia launched flights on Bangalore-Goa and Banglore-Chennai route in June and between Bangalore-Kochi last month. Currently the airline operates eight flights on the route and will launch services from Bangalore to Jaipur and Chandigarh from September. AirAsia achieved an occupancy of 80% on its flights in June, according to Directorate General of Civil Aviation data.

Bangalore and Chennai are well connected by air and there are 14 daily flights between two cities in addition to new services launched by AirAsia and now announced by Jet Airways. There are six flights between Bangalore-Goa including AirAsia flight.
