Federal Aviation Administration: Plane returns to Kennedy after 'smell of smoke'
A JetBlue
Airways regional jet made an emergency landing Thursday at Kennedy
Airport minutes after the crew reported "a smell of smoke" in the
cockpit, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The plane, an Embraer E190 operating as Flight 2702, landed safely at 8:23 a.m., the FAA said. There were no injuries.
Officials said the flight originated at Kennedy and was scheduled to fly to Buffalo.
The
crew declared the emergency shortly after takeoff, the FAA said. The
cause of the smoke "smell" was unclear -- and the FAA said Thursday that
it is investigating.
