Oregon Antique and
Classic Aircraft Club is making an official stop in Lakeview during its
16th biennial Oregon Air Tour on Monday, July 21 with aircraft on
display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lakeview Airport.
As many
as 25 vintage and antique aircraft will be flying into Lakeview for an
overnight stay as part of a weeklong tour that will have pilots also
stopping in Cottage Grove, Grants Pass, Baker City and Hood River.
Aircraft
will be on display and pilots available to share stories, with
admission free to the public. As flying historians, OACAC pilots are
particularly interested in meeting local history buffs with stories of
local crash sites and lore, as well as sharing their passion for flying
with aviation hobbyists and children. R&R Cowboy Shack will provide
snacks and refreshments at the airport. Airport Mgr. Tom Andrews is
offering discounts on aviation fuel to all registered OACAC pilots.
This
is the first time the biennial air tour has stopped in Lakeview since
2006, which then also included a stop in Christmas Valley.
Mayor
Mike Patrick will make a formal welcome of the OACAC pilots at noon.
Randy Curnow of New Pine Creek will also speak about a crash that
occurred in the 1970’s on Sugar Hill. There are also plans for a classic
car and motorcycle show to coincide, with details still being
finalized.
A communal tri-tip chuckwagon barbecue will be hosted
at the MC Chuckwagon Museum for OACAC pilots and the public from 6 to 8
p.m., catered by Lakeview Lockers. A street closure was recently
approved by the Lakeview Town Council for the triangular area where
North F Street, Hwy 140 and Hwy 395 converge to allow for the setup of
tables. Irish and jazz dancing and a quilt display will also be
available during the barbecue.
Cost for the barbecue is $12.50, with tickets available for purchase from the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
The
Lakeview Airport is located at 17819 Airport Rd. For more information
please contact the Lake County Chamber of Commerce at 541-947-6040.
