MBS elects officers: MBS International Airport (KMBS), Saginaw, Michigan

Midland city councilman Tom Adams has been elected vice chairman of the MBS International Airport Commission. He joins Bay County’s Ernie Krygier (chairman) and the City of Saginaw’s Greg Branch (secretary) in being named officers at the commission’s recent meeting. This is the second one-year term for each of the three members at their respective positions.

Airport Manager Jeff Nagel said he’s happy to have such expertise at his disposal.

“They all have done a great job,” he said. “They are the three most-senior members of the commission and bring a great deal of knowledge and expertise to the commission.”

The airport commission also approved a three-year contract with Johnson Controls to provide preventative maintenance on all the HVAC equipment in the new $55-million terminal. Terms of the deal are $22,433 per year for the three years. Nagel feels pretty good that a deal is in place, one that saw Johnson Controls hold the price firm for three years.

“With over $4-million invested in new boilers, chillers and assorted equipment in the new building, it was imperative that MBS have a preventative maintenance agreement in place to help protect that investment,” he said. “Johnson Control offers an exceptional value and they have a staff of 11 mechanics in the area who are able to respond to our requests.”

In addition, as part of the contract, the company has agreed to offer additional training for MBS personnel so “we can become more familiar with this state-of-the-art system we now have,” Nagel added.

This complex system contains about 180 different pieces, ranging from small pneumatic actuators to the large boilers and chillers that cool the entire terminal.
