Sixteen Papua New Guinean aviation personnel have graduated with certificates in onsite Occupational Health and Safety yesterday.
The participants graduated after two days training in specialized occupational health and safety held at Air Niugini’s Training Center in Port Moresby.
This specialized occupational Health and Safety training is for airline professionals who may have to access an aircraft accident site as part of their work.
This is the second training carried out this year as part of the PNG Accident Investigation Commission capacity building program for PNG nationals.
This training was funded by AusAID, and facilitated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
Chief Commissioner of the PNG Accident Investigation Commission, Nemo Yalo, said aircraft accidents may contain all kinds of dangerous substances, and it is important to have such training.
He said the objective of this training is to build an aircraft accident investigation and reporting capability in PNG that meets international standards.
Sixteen participants, including three women from different aviation companies, including airline pilots, engineers and safety officers, attended this training.
Training facilitator, Dave Grambauer, said the training will increase their capacity to carry out onsite aircraft crash investigations.
A female representative from Heli Niugini Ltd, Margaret Tuka, said this training has increased her understanding of safety management.
