Get the scoop on Friedman Memorial Airport (KSUN), Hailey, Idaho

Letters

Throughout the past number of months, we residents of Blaine County have been bombarded with information about developments at the Friedman Memorial Airport.

To confuse the issue, the facts have involved a number of collaborating and/or conflicting parties, including the airport staff, the Friedman Memorial Airport Authority, the Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives (“sequestration”), Fly Sun Valley Alliance, Sun Valley Co., you name it. Various panels have proposed modifications for runway safety area improvements, “yes” or “no” to the control tower, instruments procedures feasibility, pursuit of a replacement airport, and improvements to air service, among others. Are you still with me?

If not (and I myself wasn’t), I encourage you to attend one or both of the monthly meetings the airport staff is conducting to clarify the current status quo. Two are being held next week: (1) Tuesday, July 30, 7:30-9 a.m. at Zaney’s Coffeehouse in Hailey; and (2) Wednesday, July 31, 5-6:30 p.m. for an airport tour to see the challenges first hand. Airport Manager Rick Baird and Communications Director Candace Pate will answer your questions at both.
