The Director General of
the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, Lieutenant Colonel Oscar Derby,
says the long-awaited report into the 2009 American Airlines plane crash
in Kingston should be ready in early January.
Lieutenant Colonel Derby said the document is now being finalized.
December
22 marked three years since American Airlines flight 331 overshot the
runway at the Norman Manley International Airport breaking into three
pieces, as it crashed on a nearby beach.
Some 145 passengers were on board on the rainy December night and several were injured.
Asked why it has taken so long to produce the report, Lieutenant Colonel Derby said it is the norm.
Colonel Derby said persons may be considering using the report to bring legal action against American Airlines.
American Airlines has reportedly paid out millions of dollars in damages to several persons who were injured in the crash.
