Moray Firth crash: Remains of RAF pilot recovered

The body of an airman who had been missing for two weeks as a result of a mid air collision involving two Tornado GR-4's has been found. 

The Royal Air Force have confirmed that the remains of Flight Lieutenant Adam Sanders have been recovered from the Moray Firth and formally identified.

The 27-year-old from Lancashire was one of three crew members who died as a result of the accident which occurred at the Beatrice Oilfield, 25km east of Wick on Tuesday, July 3.

A spokesman for the Royal Airforce confirmed that formal identification has been completed and the next of kin have been informed.

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with the next of kin of the aircrew involved in the accident at this very difficult time," he said.

The body of Squadron Leader Samuel Bailey, 36, has still to be formally recovered, however tests are being carried out for additional remains that have been found.

The funeral of Flight Lieutenant Hywel Poole, 28, who was airlifted from the crash scene but died of his injuries at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness was held at Bangor Cathedral in North Wales today.
