Commissioners Get Update On Airport Taxiway Project

Ashland County Airport Authority president Ken Van Duyne met with the county commissioners Thursday to discuss the airport's taxiway project.

Van Duyne said two years ago, a partial repair was done on the south side taxiway. He said the next step is to repair the north side of the taxiway.

Van Duyne said there are some changes regarding the funding for the project that's required by the county.

"The funding package in the past has been 95 percent funding provided by the government with a 5 percent match on the part of the county," Van Duyne said.

"This year with the economy the funding has changed and now there is a 10 percent match on the part of the county. What would have been a $700,000 project that cost the county $35,000 is now going to cost the county $70,000," Van Duyne said.

He said the project is ready to go out for bids and he expects construction to begin in the early part of May and be completed within 60 days.

In other business, the commissioners approved the construction of a bridge on County Road 2575. The estimated cost for the project is $672,000.

The county will pay five-percent of the total cost which is $33,600.
