Blue Angels will be part of the air and sea shows for June Star Spangled Sailabration event.

MARTIN STATE AIRPORT, Md. - A Navy Blue Angel jet roars overhead as part of the announcement that Baltimore will finally get an airshow.

"This will be the first time that we're in the Baltimore area, especially with such a unique setting as right on the water front at Fort McHenry we can't ask for a better venue," said Blue Angels flight team member Lieutenant Commander Todd Royles.

This June, the Star Spangled Sailabration will kick off at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore to celebrate the bicentennial of the War of 1812.

"What you can expect is one of the most precise demonstrations of any tactical jet team in the world," saidLieutenant Mark Tedrow, adding, "We fly with 18 inches of wingtip to canopy separation, at times throughout the demonstration it almost looks like the jets are actually touching one another."

Baltimore County is getting involved also. Martin State Airport will host the jets for the four days they're in town, and County Executive Kevin Kamenetz mentioned plans to make that part of the celebration.

"We're going to make arrangements to open up Martin State Airport so people can come and look at the planes, and we also are making arrangements to have some of the Blue Angels themselves come visit some of the community events." Kamenetz said.

It's being active in the community that makes the Blue Angels so unique. Despite budget cuts hitting so many branches of government, the Navy knows the Blue Angels are still a crowd favorite.

"We get more than our money's worth out of the Blue Angels, every time we come to town there is a huge impact. Obviously, people are excited to see the show and people are excited to see the Navy and Marine Corps," Lieutenant Tedrow said.
