Asiana Airlines Sets New Records for International Flights

Asiana Airlines has received over 10 million passengers on international flights for the second year running, the carrier said on Sunday.

It achieved the feat this year six days earlier than in 2010, with daily passenger numbers averaging just over 29,000. At this pace, it expects the number to hit 10.64 million by the end of this year.

Asiana attributed the record performance to surging demand for its services to and from China, as well as a steady rise in the number of passengers heading to long-haul destinations such as Europe and the U.S.

Despite unfavorable factors in the airline industry such as the massive earthquake in Japan early this year, Asiana has managed to post solid performances. In the month of August, it carried 1 million passengers on its international flight routes for the first time.
