Neighbors Ready for Meeting on Airplane Noise in South Minneapolis Next Week

We told you about the airplane noise that's getting so bad in south Minneapolis that residents are starting to complain.

Next week, neighbors say they'll attend a meeting to voice their concerns and find out more about it.

The "Noise Public Input Meeting" will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25th at the Metropolitan Airport Commission's general offices.

After last year's near collision, the FAA changed its departure routes at the airport, officials say.

So now, flights departing on the east parallel runway take a quick right turn, right over the Hiawatha area.

The result, according to Minneapolis City Council member Gary Schiff, is a "27% increase in airplane traffic," he said in a recent email to residents.

The FAA says it realizes there's more noise, but safety comes first.

The MAC offices are located at 6040-28th Avenue South in Minneapolis.
