Outlaw Field Airport (KCKV), Clarksville, Tennessee: Manager resigns. Ferguson leaves to care for family.

Outlaw Field manager John Ferguson resigned for personal reasons after a little more than a year in the position.

Airport Authority board chairman Ronald Whitford told members that Ferguson went to South Carolina to take care of his son and daughter-in-law, who were both seriously injured in a recent car wreck.

Shortly after Ferguson's resignation, John Patterson received a call last weekend to be the airport's interim manager. Patterson left his home in McMinnville, booked a room in an extended-stay hotel and arrived on the job Monday.

"The last three days have been a blur," he said following the meeting.

The board approved the hiring of Patterson as interim manager for the same $68,000 salary given to Ferguson, and the board also authorized a search for a permanent replacement. Patterson said he intends to apply, and he received a warm reception from city Mayor Kim McMillan, county Mayor Carolyn Bowers and the rest of the board.

"I hope to congratulate you on your position here," Bowers said. "I think your expertise on TDOT grants will be extremely valuable."

Patterson said he filed plenty of grants for the Tennessee Department of Transportation in his last position as manager of the Warren County Memorial Airport, a position that he held for five years before his recent resignation.

The Jacksonville, Ark., native graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Aerospace Business and started his career in airports in 1989 as a line boy pumping gas in Shelbyville.
