Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board releases offshore helicopter safety inquiry report, Phase II.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) received the Phase II Report of the Offshore Helicopter Safety Inquiry today and has released it to the public.

The C-NLOPB will take up to 10 days to review the report and recommendations. The board says it will not comment on the report until it  has completed its review.

"The board would like to thank Commissioner Wells along with commission counsel and staff for their continued hard work during Phase II and in completing this report,” Max Ruelokke, Chair and CEO of the C-NLOPB said in a news release.

“The C-NLOPB will review the report and recommendations proposed by the Commissioner and will respond once the review has been completed.”

The second and final installment of the Offshore Helicopter Safety Inquiry report is expected to be released at some point today.

The report is to be delivered by inquiry commissioner Robert Wells to the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB), following that it will be made available to the public.

The report will be posted at the C-NLOPB website (a direct link will be provided here when it is available). Printed copies are expected to be made available to reporters this afternoon.

“Phase II is Commissioner Wells’ review of the Transportation Safety Board Report in respect of those sections which deal with matters within the mandate of the C-NLOPB,” stated a news release issued Saturday.

The publication will mark the end of the inquiry, mandated to improve helicopter safety for offshore workers.
