On May 28, 2019, about 1710 Pacific daylight time, a Sikorsky UH-19D helicopter, N955TC, was substantially damaged during an emergency autorotation near Brewster, Washington. Both pilots were uninjured. The helicopter was registered to Golden Aviation and operated by the pilot under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local flight, and no flight plan was filed. The flight originated from private heliport near Brewster, Washington at unknown time.
The pilot reported that, while maneuvering at 50 ft above ground level, he heard a "BANG" followed by an increase in the engine speed and a decrease in the main rotor speed. He executed an autorotation which resulted in a hard landing and a subsequent substantial damage to the helicopter.
