Analysis
The pilot of the tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that he made a three-point landing, but during the landing roll, the airplane veered right. He added that his left rudder and brake application "was not fast enough to arrest the progressive turn rate." He then applied full power to regain directional control, but his corrective action was too slow, so he decided to go around. He then realized that the climb rate was too slow, so he decided to abort the takeoff. The airplane touched down and exited the right side of the runway and subsequently ground looped to the right, and the left wing struck the ground.
The left wing sustained substantial damage.
The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

No one was hurt when a plane crashed at the Roseburg Regional Airport on Friday afternoon.
Assistant Chief Merrill Gonterman of the Roseburg Fire Department said at about 1:20 p.m. RFD personnel responded to the scene. A caller said a plane was on its side and facing south about midway down the runway.
Gonterman said crews arrived to find the plane on its left side next to the mid portion of the runway, with both wheels in the down position and one wheel damaged. The pilot, Malcom Dayton, was already out of the plane when Roseburg Fire Department arrived.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a Christavia MK I flipped on its side. Roseburg police said they responded to the airport at about 1:30 p.m.
Police said pilot Malcom Dayton, 63, of Roseburg, who owns the plane, was uninjured. They said Dayton told police he was in contact with the ground attempting to land when a cross wind pushed the plane into a grassy area. He said the wheel broke and the 2019 experimental plane was damaged from whipping around.
Roseburg fire officials said no one else was in the airplane at the time. The Roseburg Fire Department and Umpqua Valley Ambulance assisted at the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration said they and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
The Roseburg Regional Airport remained open.
