Bulgaria has to build a
single search and rescue system for aviation accidents, according to
caretaker Transport Minister Nikolina Angelkova.
Angelkova took part in the first interdepartmental meeting on search and rescue operations in air transport.
She
explained that the establishment and maintenance of the SAR system
would cost BGN 2 M a year, adding that the money will be provided from
aeronautical charges to be collected by the State Enterprise "Air
Traffic Services Authority" (BULATSA).
“A national SAR plan for
aviation accidents should be drafted and approved as soon as possible.
The aim is to create an efficient and effective SAR system,” Angelkova
said, as cited by Sega daily.
She made clear that the plan would
provide details about the relations between the institutions and
organizations in charge of handling aviation accidents, as well as
education and training plans for rescue teams, and descriptions of the
necessary equipment.
